Tonsil and Adenoid
The tonsils and adenoids are the part of the lymphatic system which assists the body in fighting infection. Sometimes, the tonsils or adenoid tissue become infected and then susceptible to repeated infections. Both the tonsils and adenoids can become enlarged, which can lead to snoring, mouth breathing and disturbed sleep. Mouth breathing can also lead to problems with facial growth and the way the teeth line up (occlusion), which can cause a lifetime of breathing and jaw problems.
Evaluation is extremely important when there are signs of breathing difficulty, and treatment should be considered before full growth has occurred. If you or your child has frequent sore throats or there are problems with mouth breathing or snoring, contact us for an evaluation.
