Cosmetic Procedures

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed. A nose that is out of balance, crooked or too large will draw emphasis away from the eyes and become a focal point of the face. The cosmetic goal of rhinoplasty is to allow the nose to blend with the rest of the facial features. Today’s attractive nose is full, strong and elegant.

The nose serves a very important function; it helps you breathe. Frequently, patients undergoing rhinoplasty also have difficulty breathing. If you have a problem breathing through your nose, you may be a candidate for a septoplasty, which is a functional procedure to improve your breathing. Your insurance carrier may provide benefits for this part of the procedure. The cost for the cosmetic portion, however, will not be covered. At the time of your visit, Dr. Kaufman will discuss this with you in detail.

Rhinoplasty can take anywhere from one to four hours. Each patient is different and Dr. Kaufman will discuss your surgery with you during your consultation. There is usually mild to moderate swelling and bruising following surgery. Most people take a week off to recover while a splint stays in place. No packing is used. It is important that you refrain from heavy exercise for ten days following surgery; however; you can be up and about on the day after the procedure.

Rhinoplasty can take up to a year to see the final result because the nose settles and takes shape during this time. You will see Dr. Kaufman several times during the year after your surgery.

Blepharoplasty & Browlift

Blepharoplasty ButteThe eyes are one of the most inviting and memorable components of the face and, unfortunately, they are also one of the first areas of our face to show signs of aging. Excess skin, caused by a natural decrease in skin tightness, can cause a droopy upper eyelid or a wrinkled appearance to the lower eyelid skin. Fat around the eyes can bulge, especially in the lower eyelids. The excess skin can block vision and make it difficult to apply makeup. Some people are genetically predisposed to heavy eyelids or to develop puffiness around the eyes earlier than others their age.

Excess skin and bulging fat can be remedied through a procedure called blepharoplasty. Patients often express concern about looking tired and become frustrated because they look older than they feel. By removing excess skin and removing and redistributing the fat, blepharoplasty can reverse these changes. The goal of a blepharoplasty is to look rejuvenated and rested without anyone knowing that anything was done.

There are some limitations to blepharoplasty - fine wrinkles around the eyes and drooping eyebrows will not gain an appreciable benefit from blepharoplasty alone. However, laser resurfacing and BOTOX® are options to reduce wrinkles in this area. Excess upper eyelid skin may be partially due to drooping eyebrows, and if this is the case, an eyebrow lift can also be performed.

Blepharoplasty and brow lift are usually performed in our office and recovery is about one week, depending on the procedure. The incisions are hidden in skin creases and on the inside of the eyelids for blepharoplasty and for the eyebrows, through small incisions made in the hair, when using an endoscope, or can even be performed through the upper eyelid incision. The effects of blepharoplasty are long-lasting and sometimes permanent.

As we age our skin loses elasticity, wrinkles develop and facial and neck tissues lose their youthful fullness and start to sag. This process starts to occur as early as our thirties. A facelift can provide a remarkable improvement to the appearance of the face, correcting a sagging jaw line, falling cheeks and a blunted neckline. Not all faces age in the same way and may require different procedures to achieve the desired result. The procedure should be individualized, accommodating to each person’s individual needs and goals. Dr. Kaufman utilizes a conservative approach to facelifting, which involves filling and restoring depleted areas to rejuvenate the face and project a more youthful and refreshed appearance. With earlier signs of aging, minimal procedures can be performed, and with more advanced changes, a more aggressive procedure is often required. Above all else, natural results are the goal.

Aging of the neck is usually a combination of loose skin and muscle, as well as excess fat, resulting in the appearance of a double chin and sagging skin. Fat under the chin is often hereditary and may not be affected by diet and exercise. A neck lift can provide remarkable improvement in this area. A neck lift can be performed alone or in combination with a facelift to achieve overall improvement, designed to treat wrinkles, sagging and skin laxity within the face for a younger, and more refreshed appearance. As we age, the effects of time, gravity, sun exposure and stress inevitably take their toll on our faces, producing wrinkles, folds, fat deposits and loose skin.

Facelift is performed at the surgery center under either twilight or general anesthesia. Neck lift can usually be performed in our office operatory. Recovery from facelifting is usually about 10 to 14 days, when you can resume social activities. A dressing is worn the first night and removed the next day and stitches are removed at one week. A facelift can be combined with other procedures depending on your needs.

A facelift can provide a remarkable improvement in your appearance. Schedule a consultation to learn more about natural facelifting procedures and to find out if it is right for you.
