Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed. A nose that is out of balance, crooked or too large will draw emphasis away from the eyes and become a focal point of the face. The cosmetic goal of rhinoplasty is to allow the nose to blend with the rest of the facial features. Today’s attractive nose is full, strong and elegant.

The nose serves a very important function; it helps you breathe. Frequently, patients undergoing rhinoplasty also have difficulty breathing. If you have a problem breathing through your nose, you may be a candidate for a septoplasty, which is a functional procedure to improve your breathing. Your insurance carrier may provide benefits for this part of the procedure. The cost for the cosmetic portion, however, will not be covered. At the time of your visit, Dr. Kaufman will discuss this with you in detail.
Rhinoplasty can take anywhere from one to four hours. Each patient is different and Dr. Kaufman will discuss your surgery with you during your consultation. There is usually mild to moderate swelling and bruising following surgery. Most people take a week off to recover while a splint stays in place. No packing is used. It is important that you refrain from heavy exercise for ten days following surgery; however; you can be up and about on the day after the procedure.

Rhinoplasty can take up to a year to see the final result because the nose settles and takes shape during this time. You will see Dr. Kaufman several times during the year after your surgery.
