Blepharoplasty & Browlift

The eyes are one of the most inviting and memorable components of the face and, unfortunately, they are also one of the first areas of our face to show signs of aging. Excess skin, caused by a natural decrease in skin tightness, can cause a droopy upper eyelid or a wrinkled appearance to the lower eyelid skin. Fat around the eyes can bulge, especially in the lower eyelids. The excess skin can block vision and make it difficult to apply makeup. Some people are genetically predisposed to heavy eyelids or to develop puffiness around the eyes earlier than others their age.

Excess skin and bulging fat can be remedied through a procedure called blepharoplasty. Patients often express concern about looking tired and become frustrated because they look older than they feel. By removing excess skin and removing and redistributing the fat, blepharoplasty can reverse these changes. The goal of a blepharoplasty is to look rejuvenated and rested without anyone knowing that anything was done.
There are some limitations to blepharoplasty – fine wrinkles around the eyes and drooping eyebrows will not gain an appreciable benefit from blepharoplasty alone. However, laser resurfacing and BOTOX® are options to reduce wrinkles in this area. Excess upper eyelid skin may be partially due to drooping eyebrows, and if this is the case, an eyebrow lift can also be performed.

Blepharoplasty and brow lift are usually performed in our office and recovery is about one week, depending on the procedure. The incisions are hidden in skin creases and on the inside of the eyelids for blepharoplasty and for the eyebrows, through small incisions made in the hair, when using an endoscope, or can even be performed through the upper eyelid incision. The effects of blepharoplasty are long-lasting and sometimes permanent.
