Vascular Treatment

The Cutera Coolglide laser can safely and effectively treat both tiny facial veins and deeper blue leg veins on men and women of all skin tones. The laser delivers pulses of light energy which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the blood vessel, which is later resorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be. Large knotty varicose veins often need different forms of treatment, and if there is pain or swelling associated with the vessels, a more extensive evaluation is needed and can be arranged before treatment is begun. Hemangiomas and port wine stains respond very well to the laser therapy. Most patients experience a stinging sensation as the blood in the vessel absorbs the energy of the laser. Gel and cold air reduce the discomfort and a topical anesthetic cream may be applied. Following treatment, pain is minimal to nonexistent. Some redness and bruising may occur and when larger veins are treated, a tan or brownish pigment may persist for a few weeks or months. Treatments can be performed at six week or greater intervals and Dr. Kaufman will discuss this with you at your evaluation.
